As a single mother of two boys, Suzanne put herself through college while working as a park ranger at Libby Dam. After graduating, she continued her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Later, she and her husband Dean—whose work brought them to Fairchild Air Force Base—put down roots in Spokane Valley, where they have lived for nearly 30 years and raised their family. Today, their children—and now grandchildren—attend schools in the Central Valley School District.
Since 1999, Suzanne has worked directly with Washington employers, helping small businesses navigate workers’ compensation, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety. As President and CEO of the Associated Builders and Contractors Inland Pacific Chapter, she partnered with local leaders to push back on burdensome regulations and rising costs that make it harder to live and do business in our community.

Suzanne currently serves her second term in the Washington State House of Representatives, representing the 4th Legislative District as a Republican. In Olympia, she has built a reputation for standing up for taxpayers, supporting job creators, and opposing policies that increase taxes, restrict housing development, and drive up the cost of living. She is also known for working across the aisle when it matters most to deliver results for her constituents.
Suzanne believes county government should focus on the fundamentals: keeping neighborhoods safe, supporting small businesses, and being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars. She brings real-world experience cutting through red tape and will ensure Spokane County policies reflect the needs of the people who live and work here—not distant bureaucracies. Suzanne Schmidt is ready to bring accountable, local leadership to Spokane County—focused on strengthening our economy, protecting our communities, and delivering results for families across the 4th District.
